Simply insert the special corrosion-resistant
probe deep into the soil of any pot or planter. A tiny amount of electrical energy will be generated by the moisture which will cause the meter needle to register moisture levels from 1 to 10. Remeber that soil may look and feel dry on the surface, however, there may actually be no need for water where it counts. |

HOW TO TEST FOR MOISTURE |
|
| TAKING
A READING Insert the probe, vertically if possible, into the pot half way between the edge of the container and the plant stem. For pots over 12" diameter (30cm) position the probe about a third of the way between the stem and the edge of the pot. Record the number of your moisture reading . Test at least twice to confirm you findings. |
|
| INTERPRETING
YOUR MOISTURE READING The numbers from 1 to 10 signify increasing wetness and no plants can tolerate the two extremes for long. In the tables provided plants are listed alphabetically by their popular names. There is no reason to water if your meter reading is higher than the number given. If the meter reading gives that number or below it is time to water. WATERING FREQUENCY The asterisks in the table indicate how often each particular plant likes water: * Check once a week --** Check every 4 or 5 days --*** Check every 3 days |
|
| SPECIAL
WATERING NEEDS The Roman numberals in the table indicate these special watering needs: I.---Spray foliage daily II.--Never let soil dry out III.-Keep soil moist but never soggy IV.--Keep soil wet at all times V.---Allow soil to dry between waterings VI.--Soil should remain dry 4-5 days before rewatering VII.-Reduce watering during dormant period VIII. Water from beneath (in saucer). Never wet foliage. |
